creativity is intelligent having fun

“I don’t think there’s any artist of any value who doesn’t doubt what they’re doing.” – Francis Ford Coppola

Read that quote again,

Have you done that? If yes, how does it sounds to you?

For me, I just realized becoming creative means having ideas, and you cannot come up with lot of ideas if you are not ready to fail.

No wonder, Albert Einstein put it, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” This is why exploring a multitude of possibilities helps to stimulate the imagination, and imagination is crucial to creativity. So how then can you master the art of creative thinking?

1. Meditate

“Touch your inner space, which is nothingness, as silent and empty as the sky; it is your inner sky. Once you settle down in your inner sky, you have come home, and a great maturity arises in your actions, in your behavior. Then whatever you do has grace in it. Then whatever you do is a poetry in itself. You live poetry; your walking becomes dancing” – Osho

Once you begin to meditate, you become an artist, your journey to creative starts and you can free to start collecting ideas.

2. Assemble

“I do not create, God creates. I assemble, and still from everything to do it” – George Balanchine

That is simple enough to understand right? Collect great ideas during your thinking time, and start asking yourself questions more and more about the ideas and where you can get more information on the ideas.

3. Create

“Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.” – Mary Lou Cook

This is it for me, creativity equals failure, how many times again did Thomas Edison failed before accomplishing the light bulb invention? 9.999 and he said this afterwards, I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work. Failure only makes you learn new ways of doing things. Now its time to gather your thoughts together and start asking, what ideas can make the thought better? That can start to take an idea to the next level.

4. Tweak

“The whole of science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thinking.”

– Albert Einstein

You can correct or refine your ideas after creation by asking, tweak it a little bit and ask what changes can make these ideas better.

5. Connect

“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things.” – Steve Jobs.

Finally, you connect the ideas by positioning them in the right context to make the thought complete and powerful.

So, creative process goes like this;

MEDITATE_ ASSEMBLE _ CREATE _ TWEAK _ CONNECT

Creativity is pure gold, no matter what you do for a living. Annette Moser-Wellman, author of The Five Faces of Genius, asserts, “The most valuable resource you bring to your work and to your firm is your creativity.
